I’m American. My husband is from Poland. How do we manage culture clash when it comes to naming our children?

This is a very common challenge when it comes to child naming. In today’s multicultural world there are so many parents from diverse backgrounds. It is actually more common than not in many instances.

Tackling this hurdle need not be a compromise for either parent.

The best approach is to develop to buckets of names one for each language or culture. Naturally each parent should lead the exercise for their culture. Once prepared, a fun exercise of cross pollination can ensue, with couples finding those names that work phonetically and in meaning for both languages or cultures.

Naturally all the other checks and balances for naming must also be considered in time, but this exercise is focussing on getting to first base with a set of naming options that will be able to straddle cross culture.
